IFES Annual Report 2015

In our latest Annual Report we describe how IFES partnered with election management bodies and civil society to ensure a vote for every voice in critical elections in 2015. We remain committed to protecting and promoting the right to vote as a fundamental human right.


IFES Observes Voting on First Nations Reserves in Saskatchewan, Canada

On April 4, voters in Saskatchewan, Canada went to the polls to elect 61 Members of the Legislative Assembly to represent their constituencies on the provincial level. IFES was invited by Elections SK to observe voting in new polling stations on First Nations reserves outside of Regina, the province’s capital, and La Ronge, a community in central Saskatchewan.

AGENDA Produces Regional Research Report on Disability Access and Inclusion

In February 2016, the General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA) published Disability Access and Inclusion in the Political Processes of Four Southeast Asian Countries. The report provides key insights from Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, written by local disabled persons’ organizations, on access and inclusion of persons with disabilities with the support from IFES.

Irena Hadžiabdić Discusses Reducing Election Violence Against Women

Irena Hadžiabdić, an Election Commissioner for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Central Election Commission and an IFES Board Director, was a special guest at the National Democratic Institute’s #Not the Cost Conference. Hadžiabdić introduced IFES’ new “Reducing Election Violence Against Women” framework.

In countries around the globe, IFES collaborates with all key domestic stakeholders – including parliaments, government institutions, civil society groups and media outlets – to cultivate effective and appropriate transparency and accountability measures. IFES recognized disability rights in political life in Ukraine through “Disability-Inclusive Elections Week” from March 11-18, 2016. Activities included a Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections training on disability rights and gender, a guest lecture at the National University of Kyiv-Mohlya Academy, a Conference on Elections and Disability Rights, and a set of high-level meetings with government and nongovernmental stakeholders. “Disability-Inclusive Elections Week” highlighted IFES’ expanding portfolio in Ukraine in the field of access to and inclusion in election processes.
