Women and Political Transition: The Risk of Replicating Inequality and the Fundamental Need for Gender Parity in Decision-Making

AGENDA Launches New Competition to Recognize Inclusive Journalism in Southeast Asia

On September 23, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA) launched its “Journalist Competition on Accessible Elections,” a journalism competition that supports rights-based reporting on disability access issues ahead of Indonesia’s 2017 regional head elections. AGENDA, a creative partnership of IFES, disabled persons’ organizations, and election-focused civil society organizations in Southeast Asia, is implementing the competition in collaboration with the Indonesian General Election Commission and the Indonesian Press Council.

IFES Conducts Training in Detection and Enforcement for the NAPC

From September 28-29, IFES Ukraine conducted a Training in Detection and Enforcement (TIDE) for 16 representatives of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC). This training responds to the increasing need of the NAPC to encourage greater compliance with political finance regulations, increase the effectiveness of regulatory activities, and reduce opportunities for corruption. Through initiatives such as TIDE, IFES works closely with the NAPC to increase the effectiveness of political finance regulation in Ukraine.

Libyan and Tunisian Election Commissions Sign Memorandum of Understanding with IFES Support

Under the U.S. Agency for International Development-funded “Libya Elections Governance Support” project, IFES held an event for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Libyan High National Elections Commission and the Tunisian Independent High Authority for Elections. The MoU creates a formal basis for cooperation between the two institutions to nurture regional exchanges of knowledge and experiences.

IFES Kosovo Works to Engage Youth in Political and Electoral Processes

Twenty-seven percent of the population in Kosovo is between 15 and 29 years old, and young people are critical to political and electoral processes in the country. To increase youth participation in political and electoral issues in Kosovo, IFES implemented an intensive program, which included mock debates, election simulations, and meetings with political entities. IFES produced several documents, including research reports, which will be used by the Central Election Commission and civil society organizations to engage youth in Kosovo.
