United States Democracy Assistance Senate Hearing

IFES Board Chairman Ken Blackwell submitted a written testimony to the Senate Committee on Appropriations' Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs for inclusion in the record of the hearing on "United States Democracy Assistance" held on May 9th. Blackwell urged the subcommittee and the U.S. Congress to continue its tradition of bipartisan support for democracy, rights and governance.

IFES Rapid Response Assessment: Promoting the Integrity of Elections in the Gambia

On April 6, Gambians went to the polls to elect a new National Assembly. Expectations were high for the first legislative elections since the country ousted its long-term authoritarian president, Yahya Jammeh, at the polls in December 2016 presidential elections. IFES conducted a two-week assessment in the Gambia specifically focused on the legal framework reform and election dispute resolution, as well as Election Day processes and procedures.

2017 Photo Contest Launch

IFES’ 2017 Photography Contest is now open and accepting submissions until June 5. The contest is open to all levels of photographers. While democracy promotion is a subjective theme, photos that capture the essence of IFES’ core areas of work (Electoral Integrity, Participation and Inclusion, Accountability, and Women’s Empowerment) are highly favored. The winner of the grand prize for the main contest theme will receive $500 (USD).

IFES Experts Contribute to American Bar Association Book on International Election Remedies

Election experts from IFES were invited to contribute four chapters to a publication of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Election Law, entitled International Election Remedies, published in November 2016. Our experts offered insights into a variety of critical electoral issues, including fraud and malpractice, voter registration, boundary delimitation, and campaign finance.

Baxter Award for election professionals and an election integrity thought leader. Each month we will publish new stories illustrating the positive impact of IFES’ work around the world.
